Q: What kind of interface does the new LS-120 diskette drive use?
The drive interface is IDE/ATAPI, which may be available at the CD-ROM drive port, the hard drive port, or via an expansion card. The drive uses the same power as a floppy drive, so the current cable can be used (or a spare), but the key step is changing over the data cable to the IDE channel connection. In many newer computers there are four IDE connections (two primary and two secondary). The first primary connection is usually connected to the hard disk drive and the second primary channel is often used for a CD-ROM drive. The LS-120 drive can be connected as a primary or secondary device and it is important to follow the installation instructions that come with the drive. The simplest connection may be to connect the LS-120 drive behind the CD-ROM drive as a secondary device. More information on LS-120 is available on the LS-120 page of our site...
